Title: Red River

It was in the spring of 2011 when I heard the news that I could possibly be going to Red River, NM for a vacation. I had wanted to go on a trip for a while, and this was the time, so I quickly jumped at the opportunity.

I had been anxiously waiting for the departing day to come, and finally it did after several months. My family and I left our house around 4AM and started to drive to Santa Fe, NM. After 12 hours, we pulled up in the parking lot of the Hyatt suites where we were escorted into our rooms (We'd made plans to stay there for a night before making the journey to Red River). Shortly after that, our suitcases arrived and after 3 hours of sitting around, we fell asleep.

The next morning we woke just as the sun was rising into the morning sky. We scurried downstairs into the breakfast area and grabbed a bite. We quickly ran back upstairs, packed our bags, and were out the door in a matter of seconds.

The drive took around 4 hours, but it was well worth it once we pulled up to our cabins and saw the mountains. The sun was setting like a gazelle running away from a lion, so we threw our luggage in the cabin and raced to the ski lift. It was a short 10 minute ride to the top, but in those 10 minutes, I had witnessed some of the most beautiful scenes I had seen in my life. Once we reached the top, all outside world had seemed to vanish into thin air because of the great beauty. Out in the distance I could see our cabin, an old mine shaft, and the earth curving. Sadly, a couple minutes later, the sun started to creep below the horizon, so we made the ride down the lift and back to the cabin where we feel into a peaceful sleep.
